Catskill had cats, Saratoga had horses, Hudson had dogs - towns and cities across the country are showing off the newly popular "public art," and The Mac-Haydn Theatre here is no exception this summer.
Throughout the theatre’s 42nd season of classic and contemporary musicals, tragedy/comedy theatre masks decorated by Mac-Haydn past and present stars and staff will be on display in the lobby. A silent auction for the unique, original theatre art will go on all summer, with all proceeds going to the not-for-profit theatre.
The creators of the masks already on display have used paint, sequins, decoupage and fur to make their art uniquely one-of-a-kind. Masks from Rhnea Wright, Crystal Mosser, Karla and Kelly Shook, and Frank Lopardo have already been bid on.
More masks are expected as the artists finish their work, so be sure to check each time you come to see this summer’s shows: Anything Goes June 10 - 20, The Secret Garden June 24 - July 4, Chicago July 8 - 18, Damn Yankees July 22 - August 1, Mame August 5 – 15, Showboat August 19 – September 5, and Bye, Bye Birdie September 10 – 19.
You can also stop by to just see the art, but be warned - the singing may make you want to come see a show!
